Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2010

At first this book seems overwhelming, and if the book seems over whelming imagine how one feels when getting to the parks. But, after reading the book you come away with a better understanding and the overwhelming feeling turns into excitement. One thing I found very helpful for me is I read the book cover to cover once. Then I read it again only this time with a highlighter in hand and marked items of special interest to our family. And then I read it again to make sure I covered all my areas of interest. This book is very detailed and an excellent source to learn about wdw.

Another Outstanding Job

Once again the Unofficial Guide comes through as the top Disney World Guide out there. The tips and research done by this team of Disney experts is second to none. The greatest part of this book is the section on touring plans. The research from the book as well as the accompanying website is sure to make your trip to Disney World the best possible experience. A few years ago my wife and I created our own touring plan through the advice of this book and were able to fly through the park completing every major ride at every major park in the fewest time possible. It left us the afternoons to just enjoy the park while we never waited in a line for more than 15 minutes on any ride.

The other important sections to me where the sections on food. We really felt like we knew where the good values were in every park and this only made our experience better. The latest addition was purchased in advance of our upcoming trip and I am glad that we made the purchase. Every year there are new attractions, restaurants, hotels, and ideas that make your experience better and the 2010 version fills us in on the things that are new since we went on our trip in 2008. There is no doubt that using this guide will make your trip better. It really is a bit science and a bit art to get the most out of your Disney journey and this Unofficial Guide will start you on the right path.

The Ultimate Guide for the Ultimate Disney Fan

I decided to purchase this guide after purchasing PassPorter's 2010 guide, and it was the perfect compliment. Whereas most guides, with the except of these mentioned, gives you the sugar coated review of rides attractions and so forth, Bob gives you the raw, nitty gritty of what you'll expect to see as you tour the World.

I appreciate the book's honesty, in addition to excerpts from letters of real travelers and their experience (both good and bad) with using the Guide and its infamous Touring Plans that can be found in the back or on [...]. Not only does the book describe in detail (we're talking 850 pages, its a clunker), its very well indexed, structured, and I love the little bits of comic relief found throughout the book. I could've done without the comparisons to Universal Studios and such, but overall it didn't hurt the quality of the book too much. If you have the PassPorter, some pages are clippable and fit perfectly into your PassPockets. The book also includes background info regarding rides and attractions and how they work and operate, and comes extremely helpful in timing and making the most out of your vacation. If you're worried about lack of spontaneity, don't worry, skip what you don't want to do and move on with the touring plan. It'll save your hours of time wasted standing in lines.

On another note, I agree with some who would've liked to been able to see more color photos. the beginning of the book has some beautiful color photos that leave you wishing that you could've found more sprinkled throughout the book.

Great Book..SOOO worth the money!!!!!!

I have been buying the unofficial guide..for every trip to Disney world..since the mid 90's.....
when a fellow park hopper..showed me her touring plan.
And..they are always worth the price of the book/ALWAYS.
As other posters have stated...not everything is perfect...but it will save you a few bucks..and..most valuable..a TON of time.
My son is pretty much a Disney expert...gives private tours...and worked there for years..
But,to his dismay..The book was up to date on a few important things [for me] that he was not aware of.
So yes..Disney may have raised a few prices..after the book was published[no big surprise there]..
but..most of the info is on the money..and a huge time saver.

interesting book

you don't have to do exactly what they describe in the book but it's a great guide to have a great wdw vacation.

USA Today calls it, "An authoritative and in-depth look at all that the island offers." The author is a resident who personally and anonymously reviews every facet of Maui. From restaurants to helicopter companies to scuba to beaches to trails, he sees it all and shows you the best Maui has to offer.

Customer Review :

Common sense advice for folks on a budget

If you find yourself going to Maui or any of the other islands (all covered to some extent by Wizard Publications "Revealed" series) and you're interested in relatively inexpensive activities focused on the outdoors, these are the guidebooks for you. First of all, the books are packed with accurate, detailed, easy-to-read, appropriately arranged maps. In most cases the maps are supplemented with photographs that help you double-check that you're in the right spot. If you like to head out on your own and do your own thing, it's easy to map out a game-plan and go for it. Secondly, the well-written guides are based on a "no-nonsense" approach to travel: straightforward common sense advice about safety, culture, history, activities, prices, weather and even the crackling noise you hear when you snorkel. One of the most significant challenges in writing a guide book about anything is that in order to present accurate, detailed information, you have to become an expert. Once you become an expert, however, it's easy to forget what it was like when you didn't know squat. Maui Revealed is a guidebook written by experts for use by us amateurs. It's an environmentally conscious, culturally aware, budget-minded, brutally honest guide to Maui. Only Shot At A Good Tombstone

Maui Revealed: The Ultimate Guidebook (Maui Revealed)

I purchased this book on recommendations from other travellers to Maui and even though I haven't read it all yet, the information, tips, tricks, hints and suggestions are fantastic. I am a first time traveller to Maui and unlike many other publications this one gives you expert analysis on the rights and wrongs, places to see and which ones you will be wasting your time with.

A must get for any Maui traveller

Great book full of tips, location, & photos.

This is a great book and very popular. It seemed most people doing driving tours around the island had one. They also have them for sale on Maui but it is best to buy ahead of time and mark up the things you want to go see. There is so much to go and do in Maui, I was shocked. We didn't get to see half of it. The authors are great because they aren't boring, they talk with humour & give you the truth of all situations from history to present day ownerships, also places to see & not to waste your time on, & where to eat & not eat. There are lots of visuals of places to see & maps & mile markers to help guide you. I recommend this book to anyone going to Maui.

A must have book

I already have "Big Island Revealed" so I knew I needed this one. Very accurate info delivered in a casual and sometimes comical way. Best guide books I have ever read. With this book one can just about plan all their daily vacation outings from the mainland, but bring the book anyway.

The finest guidebook ever written for Kauai and the only one written by a writer who anonymously reviews the island. He visits every beach, restaurant, activity and trail on the island. Very complete book

This book gives very complete details of the Island. Maps, trails, sights, seasons and local knowledge of areas. Some of this information may concern local customs and some many be of important safety issues. It also gives information about the weather. An easy to read guidebook.

Don't Leave Home Without It!

We would never go to any island in Hawaii without these guys' books. They are well-researched, honest and easy to use. We have found little out-of-the-way perfect beaches that we'd have missed otherwise. They are fabulous!

Excellent Maps but the info was a little dated

The maps in this guide book are invaluable to the Kauai traveler. The written sightseeing, activity and dining information was not as accurate as the Lonely Planet guide (which we also purchased.) The book has a website with "updates" but there are still errors and omissions in this book. We ate at a restaurant that this book "panned" and had an excellent experience; we thoroughly enjoyed a Na'pali coast sunset sail with Kauai Sea Tours (this books last choice) et cetera. We used both books to create our own experience - not blindly following the recommendations of one guide.

My overall recommendation - buy the book for the maps but follow your own instincts when exploring Kauai, form your own opinions, make your own choices and have a wonderful experience.

Best Travel Guide on Kauai

Reading this book before we arrived in Kauai was the best thing we could have done to enjoy our vacation to the max. Full of information, it has no advertising, and the author has paid to take all the sightseeing tours & meals in restaurants himself, so he is not obligated to anyone when writing his opinions. The maps are very helpful. I highly recommend this book to all tourists to Kauai, you will be glad you did!

So glad we have this for our Easter trip!

We're headed down to Disney World this Easter so I bought this book. So glad I did! It is PER-FECT!!! It has exactly this information I was hoping it would have about Springtime at Disney. For example, it has photos and descriptions of the special Easter events, like the Trail Maids at Magic Kingdom. It has OUTSTANDING tips on how to use Disney's Fastpass system, and hour-by-hour wait times for every ride and show... things that are very important to us since we will be there during a very busy period. And it has the best hotel room information I have ever seen! I've learned Disney Resort rooms can be tough to come by during the spring, so you really need to know what the differences are. This book lays it all out, with details and especially photographs that make what would be a headache of a chore relatively easy.

Quite a good guide but some omissions

I have traveled to WDW often and have always bought the "official" guide. I bought this based on online reviews and overall am very happy with the guide's information. I felt this book gave more detailed info on the specific changes the parks are undergoing or will be undergoing this year. The "official" guide seems to omit this completely. The pictures are nice but not totally necessary for the repeat traveler. I would have liked more info on the restaurants and the dinner shows. How about a small chapter on Non-Disney attractions? I still felt I needed the info the "official" guide gave me but find that the information in this guide on the wait times and popularity of the attractions at each park will be invaluable for planning my days.

Accurate, detailed, clear... and fun to read

I was born and raised here in Central Florida, so I've been to Walt Disney World more than a few times, and can tell a good travel guide from a bad one. This book is the best one of all. The advice is very helpful, the information is way more up to date and it is written in a clean and well organized way. Covers it all, does it well. A bonus: In my experience, children love to look through it with you.

Always the best Disney guide

This book always has a lot of good stuff in it, but this 2010 edition is better than ever. I will be using it a lot, not just for my family but for all the relatives who always seem to "drop in." A common thing here in Orlando! The descriptions of the rides and shows start off with a very handy list of specifications, such as the length of the ride and how scary it is for children. My sister says she wished she had looked at it before she took my niece on the Tower of Terror! I also liked the list of character locations they include for each theme park. So handy, especially when you have a child who MUST meet Lilo! Now I know where she is! Well to sum up you should know I have bought many Disney World guides over the years, but there isn't anything that compares to this new Complete Guide for helping you have fun and enjoy your visit. Better than ever this year, with new stuff like photos of the rooms at the Disney resorts and a great guide to the animals at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The best of the Disney World guides - bar none!

I grew up in Orlando and was a Disney Cast Member for more than two years, so I know Disney, and I've read every guide book there is. I can tell you that this is by far the best book out there for planning a trip to WDW, whether you are a first timer, a family, or traveling with a flock of teenagers.

This book is brilliantly illustrated with photographs of nearly every attraction. The authors have thought of every key detail needed to create an easy to use guide book. Color coded borders at the top of every page make finding the section you're looking for simple. The book itself isn't too bulky and will easily stash away in any backpack. Average wait times are listed for every attraction, by the hour.

The reviews are honestly written (Country Bear Jamboree is "way past its prime"), comprehensive, and packed with trivia. I was blown away with the number of "fun facts" that I didn't even know. Hidden Mickeys are detailed throughout the book as well.

If there's any point of criticism, it's that the book occasionally reveals its authors' ages. Two full pages are devoted to the Hall of Presidents, the stereotypical Disney snooze fest. The movie in Epcot's France Pavilion gets four stars - I challenge you to find anyone under the age of 30 who would agree. But these are the most minor of infractions.

Every Disney World visitor who reads this book cover to cover will have a fantastic trip!

Got this book for my Dad as a gift because he wants to go to the places on the show. He really liked it - as did my Mom, my daughter and me. It's helping Mom and Dad pick out some places to eat when they go away on vacation this spring. And my daughter and I are borrowing it to plan where to eat on a day trip this spring. Great book for fams of the show!

A Better Road Trip

My wife and I are currently on a road trip from Delaware to Florida, ahead of the storm. As we did not have the featured book, we did very well by going to Guy's web site and printing a list of all the states we would be visiting, all along I95.
So far we are doing quite well considering the limits we have placed on ourselves.
All the states we have traversed have at least 6 places and Florida, the most, at 16 "joints".
The one place we found at our destination has been our place to go 5 times since the first of February.
