Streetwise Vancouver Map - Laminated City Center Street Map of Vancouver, Canada - Folding pocket size travel map with integrated Sky Train & Express Line routes & stations

This map covers the following areas:
Main Vancouver Map 1:26,000
Downtown Vancouver Map 1:12,500
Vancouver Area Map 1:120,000
Downtown Victoria, BC Map 1:14,000
University of British Columbia Map 1:57,000

There are plenty of sites in Vancouver and getting around to see them all is easy. If you’re staying in the city (and you probably are) you can walk to most attractions. The Vancouver Museum highlights the growth and development of Vancouver from an outpost of fishing and forestry to a world class city. Science World is a great spot to take the kids so they can experience the interactive exhibitions and see an eye-popping OMNIMAX presentation. Adults will appreciate spending the time on Granville Island, a former dingy collection of rusty warehouses now transformed into galleries, shops, artists’ studios and home to a thriving public market the perfect place to pick up provision for a picnic.

The best place to start your visit is Vancouver Lookout at Harbour Centre. Take a 45 second ride up a glass elevator to arrive at a spectacular 360° view of the city, the surrounding communities, the harbour and the mountains beyond. On a clear day you may even see Vancouver Island.

What you notice most when you’re perched above the city is how green it is. As the city developed over the years, a large tract of forest was set aside, over 1,000 acres, destined to remain wild and serve as a reminder of whence the city originated. So began Stanley Park. Located right in the heart of the city, this green sanctuary is crisscrossed with walking trails and surrounded by English Bay and a 6 mile seawall - a lovely place for a stroll at sunset. Within the park are tennis courts, playgrounds, a miniature golf course, restaurants, snack bars and cafes, the Vancouver Aquarium, the Lost Lagoon where you can feed ducks and raccoons, swimming beaches, a pool, a miniature railroad for the kids, totem poles and a cannon that goes off precisely at 9 PM each evening.

The capital of British Columbia is located at the tip of Vancouver Island, across the Straight of Georgia from Vancouver. Veddy Veddy British in nature, Victoria has the mildest climate in all of Canada. You can get to Victoria by taking the 1 ½ hour ferry ride from Tsawwassen, in south Vancouver to Swartz Bay, about a half an hour from Victoria.

Whatever adventure you choose in this corner of Western Canada, the STREETWISE® Vancouver Map will assist you. The main map covers all of Downtown along with Stanley Park, Gastown, Chinatown, West End, Yaletown and Granville Island. A separate inset map of the central downtown area highlights hotels, sites, SKYTRAIN stations, shopping, government and educational sites and the cruise ship terminal, where cruises to Alaska start and end. A map of the Vancouver area extends from the southern suburb of Richmond to North and West Vancouver, from Burnaby to Sea Island, including the Vancouver International Airport. All major highways and thoroughfares are depicted along with exit numbers and sites. An inset of the University of BC campus is included as well as an inset of downtown Victoria, BC.

Our pocket size map of Vancouver is laminated for durability and accordion folding for effortless use. The STREETWISE® Vancouver map is one of many detailed and easy-to-read city street maps designed and published by STREETWISE®. Customer Review :

Handy, but lacking in detail

Not a bad map, but there are a significant number of streets missing because the map is a bit "zoomed out." Handy to have for orienting yourself, but definitely not ideal as a driving or walking map. For that, purchase a paper map at a bookstore once you arrive.

Navigating Vancouver...

"Streetwise Vancouver" packs an enormous amount of information into a small, plastic, portable folding map of the city. Several coverages are provided.

A general Vancouver Area map provides an overview of the city from Richmond and the International Airport to North and West Vancouver. An inset map provide closer detail on Stanley Park and the area between English Bay and Burrard Inlet. A second inset map covers Yaletown and the Downtown area, including Canada Place and B.C. Place Stadium. A third inset map highlights the University of British Columbia campus and adjacent Pacific Spirit Park. The foldout presentation has an index for the major streets, hotels, gardens, museums, and transportation nodes. As an added bonus, small inset maps show Downtown Victoria and the Strait between Victoria and Vancouver.

This map is small enough to easily fit in a purse, backpack, or even a back pocket. There is sufficient information, when coupled with one of several very adequate guide books, to enable the visitor to find his or her way around Vancouver. This product is highly recommended to travelers planning to visit British Columbia's largest city.

Handy, Useful, and Durable!

I love this series of maps. Small and plastic-coated, they tuck into a purse or backpack easily, don't tear or get wrinkled, and they are colorful and attractive. This particular map is very small and yet very easy to read, and gives you everything you need to know about Vancouver, Stanley Park, University of British Columbia campus, downtown Vancouver, the Vancouver area, and even downtown Victoria, which is across the channel on Vancouver Island. Tourist spots are all noted, along with major hotels. It really is the best way to see a city! I get one for every city I go to.

Editorial Review :

In the late 1970s Ondaatje returned to his native island of Sri Lanka. As he records his journey through the drug-like heat and intoxicating fragrances of that "pendant off the ear of India," Ondaatje simultaneously retraces the baroque mythology of his Dutch-Ceylonese family. An inspired travel narrative and family memoir by an exceptional writer.

Customer Review :

Even Better Than The English Patient

Ondaatje at his loftily lyrical, yet unpretentious best. An undoubted favorite among Canadian literary memoirs, this is the story of Michael Ondaatje's crazy family, who were among the ruling class in colonial Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka. The writing is a beautiful spectacle but the content is highly personal, at times almost vulnerable for all the impenetrability of the prose.

Also the book is very funny. Ondaatje views his family as ridiculous and distances himself from them, but does so with an unmistakable love. Any scorn (a feeling anyone with a ridiculous family will find reflexive and familiar) seems squeezed out and we are left with a sense of reconciliation and the poetry of all things.

Rating :

Tigers

The times in the recent past that we have read about Ceylon, now Sri Lanka, in the newspapers has concerned the Tamil Tigers who have finally been crushed and one wonders if they were fighting against a government controlled by Ondaatje-type people. The author's father was such a dedicated drunkard that its possible he actually was schizophrenic. I like the author best for his humorous detail but he never seems to get hold of a story too well and kind of staggers around with the shreds of it. At the end, I wondered was Doris his mother name or his stepmother's. Kudos to his mother for actually leaving his father and going to England where she earned her own living. The author doesn't think much of her but I do. What a brave woman. Is the author also a drunkard, I wonder?

Rating :

A Favorite Memoir

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its exotic locale and irreverent description of the author's own family. In fact, it made me laugh out loud in places.

Rating :

Irritating

Ondaatje seems to be trying too hard. The language is overly flowery and the plot is often lost beneath the mound of words. It does have a few good moments, some funny, some touching. But in general, I spent most of this book irritated by the grandois manner of the author, as if by writing in a vague and pretty-fied manner, his words will sound important and deep.
Maybe it's just me, but I find that vague does NOT equal meaningful.

Rating :

Remembering Family

I read this book for a Canadian fiction class and really liked it. The language was so interesting and different from anything I had read before. It is a wonderful story about a wacky family. There are good times, bad times, funny stories, tragic stories, and just plain wacky events. It really makes you want to take a look into your own family and find out all of the "juicy" details. I really liked the book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting story.

Customer Review :

great overview map, fits in purse

we use this map all the time when we go to Montreal- convenient that it has the whole metro system on it, too. I would NOT think that it fits in a pocket, unless you're talking about a large inside coat pocket like on a man's suit jacket! I keep ours in my handbag.

Great, clear, handy Montreal map

I got the map for my recent trip to Montreal on the Thanksgiving weekend of November 2009 . I can't say my wife and I used it a whole lot but whenever we needed some directions it came very handy. It's a nice "fits in your jeans pocket" size, easy to read, easy to fold and carry around. Lamination is a good thing too - it will probably last forever no matter how often you fold it or spill coffee over it. Definitely recommended - a very solid map for all your Montreal travel.

Rating :

perfect map

All of these streetwise maps are great. They focus on the downtowns of major cities- just where you probably are when you are walking around and need a quick reference. The size is perfect, and the plastic coating makes them extremely durable. I was in Montreal for over a month and had three local people ask me where I got the map - twice when I pulled it out on the Metro to review where I was going once I got off, once just on the street. As one person told me: "It doesn't look like a tourist map, I'd like one. Where did you get it?" The same thing happened twice in Paris last year with that map. Highly recommend!

Love these maps

These maps are very helpful in terms of vacation planning & sightseeing. Their size is very convenient and they are easy to read.

Just the right thing for walking around a city

We've been to Montreal many times before, but I was tired unfolding huge paper tourist maps to find my way around. I had seen the "Streetwise Map" series before and thought it would work well. It was just as I hoped - compact, durable, and very clear. My only problem was that some of the street names were hard to read with my aging eyes, but that is not the fault of the map! Overall it's very clear, nicely designed and easy to carry around when exploring a new city. I am sure I'll buy more of these as I head to other places.

Editorial Review :

For Americans either contemplating a move or already living in Canada, this reference answers all the questions necessary to successfully plan the transition, including immigration planning, customs planning, cash management, income tax planning, retirement, wills and estates, risk management, and investments. According to the Association for Canadian Studies, more than 10,000 Americans moved to Canada in 2006, a new 30-year record. The similarity in language, currency, culture, services, and products of these two countries can lead Americans in Canada to mistakenly think its laws and customs are also the same. With proper planning before moving, it is possible to get a five-year tax holiday from Canadian taxes!

Customer Review :

A worthwhile investment

This book covers the range of financial complications you may face pre- and post-relocation. Even if your life and move seem simple, there are a number of potential nasty surprises so it's best to read the book BEFORE you move, if possible. I really appreciate the advice, and also that it's available for Kindle.

Rating :

if you're american moving to canada, this is the best book I've found on things to think about

I've read 3 books and had 3 advisors I've paid for, and this book has between its covers more advice than those 6 sources combined. moving is tricky - more so in a post Sept 11 world - and this book covers all the topics, small and large, that you'll need to consider. Strongly recommended!

Rating :

Sort of helpful, but not that supportive, if that makes sense

The book is laden with good info on the challenges an American moving to Canada might face, especially regarding taxes and citizenship, but its credibilty suffers from lots of jingoistic opinion (Canadians could learn to be more patriotic from Americans, for example) and a lot of 'our firm specializes in these issues' quasi-marketing content. While trying to be realistic, the authors simply come off as trying to talk you out of it. I wasn't that pleased with the book.
