Editorial Review :
Caves and Karst of Guam is a field guide to the limestone areas of Guam, their numerous caves and spectacular karst topography. It includes information on hiking, caving, kayaking, diving and other outdoor activities. It is designed to help the reader enjoy the nature of Guam while learning about its geology. Interspersed with the scientific information, are guides to specific places on Guam; narrow gorges, deep sinkholes, spectacular caves, soaring cliffs, isolated beaches, hikes, SCUBA diving spots and kayaking trips. By describing Guam’s fun outdoor spots and activities in an appropriate scientific context, this book not only informs the reader about places to go and what to do, but also explains the complex geology behind Guam’s stunning natural beauty.

Field Guide Review
What a great resource! I can't wait to put it to use on my next visit to Guam.

Fantastic guide to Guam!
I originally bought this book just for reading material, but when I found out I was going to Guam I broke it out and read it in earnest. I found the guide to be very well written with many color photographs, cave descriptions, topo maps (which helped with general navigation as well as hiking), and many other sections such as diving, hiking and kayaking. After going to Guam and actully using the book as a field guide I was even more impressed with how well the book is laid out, the accuracy of the descriptions and the depth of information. The spiral binding and plasiticized pages make it ideal for use on the trail and it will stand up well to being tossed in a backpack on a regular basis. I highly recommend this book for anybody interested in the geology, history and/or recreation available on Guam!

Excellent Book - I have one in my library.
Field Guide to Caves and Karst of Guam by Danko Taborosi is an excellent contribution to Guam's history. It accounts for the caves and karst of the island, in a way that is academic, scientific and yet a helpful guide for all who want to explore the island's natural features. Outdoor activities should be encouraged but not at the expense of safety, and this book conveys the inherent dangers associated with exploring the Island's dangerous but exciting outdoors; characteristics unique to islands. However, it admonishes the importance of calculating, planning and well thought out approach with emphasis on the significance of special training and numerous precautions when exploring vertical caves, deep dives and naturally developed karst areas. I was amazed with the natural beauty of the Island that Danko's photos reveal, something I've not seen although Guam has been my home since birth, 50 years ago. Through his work I have been introduced to a Guam I had no familiarity with and can now learn to appreciate. His devotion to exploration and work over the year that he gathered the material for his book is a wonderful gift to the Chamorro people. Dångkolo na Si Yu'os Ma'åse (Thank you very much) Danko.

Zero 3 Bravo: Solo Across America in a Small Plane

Editorial Review :
Mariana Gosnell takes the reader along on her extraordinary voyage across the U.S. in her single-engine Luscombe Silvaire, Zero Three Bravo. Enticed by the ribbon of sky that she could see from her Manhattan office window, she took a leave of absence from her job and made a three-month solo flight, navigating by use of landmarks and landing in America's little-known, back-country airports. She traveled south from her home airport of Spring Valley, New York, down to North Carolina and Georgia, west across Texas to Los Angeles and north to San Francisco, and then east over the Rockies, the plains, and the farms of the Midwest until she was back home. What results is a lyrical description of land, sky, and water interwoven with experiences among small-town folks, maverick crop-dusters, banner towers, mechanics, and airport loiterers. With each landing there is a story to be told: the deaf-mute pilot who grounded himself until the eggs in the bird's nest lodged in his plane's engine had hatched, the woman running an airport by herself after losing both her husband and son to flying accidents, and the pilots and "hangar bums" who tried to hide their surprise when they saw a woman pilot flying cross-country solo. This true story -- including photos taken on the trip -- will make the confirmed urban dweller yearn for open spaces and the adventurous life.

Good Aviation read
This book is worth the read. If you have ever considered flying on a long cross-country, just you and your airplane this is for you. It's set in the 1970's (1977) America. It's written by a female pilot but it's holds well for guys or gals. It's not deep into the technical parts of flying but is a story about people, places and the perspective of flying totally VFR coast to coast and back.

Great writing!
This book was a good choice to read after recently finishing "Crazy in the Cockpit." I confess I skipped/skimmed through the more technical aviation-related sections, concentrating on the travel narrative aspect. Makes for good bedside reading.

Enjoyable
Mariana gives a great description of her trip across the country. A great read for those who just want to visit the many small FBO's she encountered.

Amazing Adventure Documented Wonderfully
I just love this read! It is so enjoyable and heartfelt that I have read it multiple times over the years!
If you love aviation ... you will love this book! If you have a passing interest in aviation ... you will love this book!
A very sensitive look into not only the adventure of the author but her heart, her soul, her very person as well.

What a way to go!
I loved William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways" describing his travels on the back roads of America. Now Mariana Gosnell has done an aerial version of it and has done it equally well. I had two childhood dreams. I'll never be a cowboy but, even at my advanced age, I can be a pilot. Until then, please take me with you on your next odyssey Mariana

The Edge of Time: Photographs of Mexico by Mariana Yampolsky (Wittliff Gallery Series)

Editorial Review :
"This is my country." Mariana Yampolsky knew it the moment she opened her window and saw a bougainvillea blooming against a white wall on her first morning in Mexico City in 1944. Her empathy for the Mexican people and their land has guided her work for more than fifty years, finding expression in books of dramatic black-and-white photographs ranging from her early La casa en la tierra and La casa que canta to The Traditional Architecture of Mexico. The Edge of Time presents a retrospective of Yampolsky's photographic work since 1960. Reflecting her lifelong concerns, the images capture rural Mexico and its people with respect and infinite care. They function as works of art and as documents of a moment in Mexico's history when lifeways that have endured for centuries face the onslaught of modernization. Elena Poniatowska has been Yampolsky's friend for many years and, in the foreword, she describes Yampolsky's method of working and includes many quotes from the photographer herself. Sandra Berler provides an overview of Yampolsky's life and the range of her work. Francisco Reyes Palma concludes the text with an exploration of Yampolsky's photographic aesthetic.
