A Very Good Guide Book
I spent the better part of the afternoon reading this book as I'm planning on a trip to Singapore and Malaysia this week. The Lonely Planet can usually (although not always) be counted on to provide for solid information on travel destinations and this one does just that. It's pretty well written and everything is nicely laid out. I particularly enjoyed the historical overview at the beginning and the section on the national psyche. Malaysia and Singapore (I didn't read about Brunei) sound like thoroughly enjoyable and interesting places. I especially appreciated the description of KL as being something of a nightmare for pedestrians. That's the type of honesty that travelers need, and it's also what helped make the Lonely Planet famous in the first place.

Not yet received in mail.
Unfortunately the postal service in China is sporadic and somewhat unreliable. I am still hoping that the book I ordered in early October will arrive soon. The reason I purchased the book is to plan a December holiday in Singapore and Malaysia.
Rating :
Too many grammatical errors & unhelpful hotel reviews
I am reviewing the 10th Edition (pub. Jan. 2007).
Throughout, this book is riddled with grammatical errors. Also, with regards to the hotel reviews for Singapore, Penang, & Kuching, most sound like dumps to stay in. Surely there must be better places to include in this travel guide.

Good guide for trip to Langkawi
Purchased this book to get basic information about the Island of Langkawi. Provided great restaurant list and information about getting around the island. Highly recommend this book if traveling to Malaysia.

Customer Review :
Extremely helpful for a week in Malaysia and Singapore
I bought this book for a week of travel within Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and wasn't disappointed. Rough Guides aren't the most easiest books to read (Lonely Planet is better in this category) but has more timely and accurate information. I used DK's Top Ten Singapore as the primary Singapore book to get around, but soon found it pretty worthless for help in getting from A to B (especially in Singapore, where half of the attractions lacked information on what buses to get there.)
As for Kuala Lumpur, this book was invaluable. I purchased another book whose map was pretty inaccurate and was useless when walking around. Even though this book doesn't make it easy to keep in a pocket, I had it in my hand most of the time I walked around KL.
I wholeheartedly endorse this book if you plan on spending time in Malaysia and Singapore, two really cool places that shouldn't be avoided.

Customer Review :
Great guide, packed with lots of info!
I purchased this guide and the DK Eyewitness Malaysia/Singapore guide about a month before I went on my trip to KL. I just returned last night after spending a week there.
Let me just say that the LP guide is awesome! It is packed full of all the info you could possibly want to know and it also includes maps of the different areas of KL as well as transit maps. It describes in detail the different things to do in KL, where to stay(as well as phone numbers) and where to eat.
A lot of restaurants in KL don't give many details on their menus so you're not always sure what exactly you're eating, but this KL guide includes a food glossary so you can quickly look up most foods. I found it very helpful because I have issues with trying to eat something when I have no clue what it is, even if it is delicious.
As far as shopping, it did include information on all the major shopping areas in KL.
I carried this guide with me everywhere I went. I used this book a whole lot more than my DK guide, but I would still buy both. If you're planning a trip to KL, I wholeheartedly recommend this guide!

Editorial Review :
Globetrotter's "The best of Kuala Lumpur" provides an attractive, handy pocket guide to this eternally popular destination. The book features well-presented, to-the-point sections on the highlights of the city, places of interest, activities, accommodation, where to eat out, entertainment and excursions. It features travel tips, a general index and also a separate index for the places of interest. Each entry is cross referenced with the fold-out maps. The Highlights chapter features an introduction to each of the 20 featured highlights, information on its location and how to get there, contact details, opening hours, entry fees and tour details where applicable. The Sightseeing chapter features historic buildings, galleries and museums, parks and gardens. The chapters are arranged in directory form, with contact details, nearest metro stops, opening hours, and entry fees for each featured site. The Activities chapter features sports, activities for children, unusual activities unique to the city, suggested routes for walking tours (including map grid references, distance and duration, where to eat and drink) and organized tours, while the Shopping chapter covers shops and markets.Accommodation includes listings by area and price category. Eating out covers the cuisine of the region, as well as listings of suggested venues by area and price. Entertainment includes nightlife, music, theatre, festivals, casinos, pubs and clubs, and spectator sports. Excursions are cross-referenced with the excursions map, and includes transport options, distance, contact details, highlights and where to eat and drink. A handy Travel Tips section handles everything from transport and money to personal safety and etiquette.

OK as a Pocket Travel Guide, but not enough detail
There are few travel guide books about Kuala Lumpur so this is a reasonable option with coverage on the popular sites, hotels, dining, and general info and basic maps. I am disappointed that there isn't more detail - the book is kind of thin. They could easily leave out the hotel info and make this better as a pocket guide to carry around while exploring the city. Lonely Planet which coverages Peninsula Malaysia in their full guidebook is more useful and comprehensive overall (as would be expected). I was hoping the city map included street by street detail, at least in the central tourist areas, but sadly it does not. I guess they expect you to carry this and a separate map too which is not the reason I purchased it. I'll plan on looking for a compact street level map when I arrive.

A really good pocket guide to Kuala Lumpur
I'm a big fan of the pocket-sized books that you use as an overview to a city. If I'm on a time constraint and have a few days in a city, I want to be able to hit the highlights of a city. Plus, if this fits in my cargo pants pocket. The book serves as a great overview for KL with lots of pictures to rival the DK Top Ten series of books.
This book is pretty helpful in planning the highlights of what will probably be a short trip to Kuala Lumpur. I'll use this book as my overview book and the The Rough Guide to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei 6 (Rough Guides) as the more comprehensive guide for more obscure adventures.
Edit 12.16.2009: The KL map was pretty worthless in this book, and I ended up using The Rough Guide map in the book above. The book is decent in the information, but without a good map, there's no real value-add in getting this book.
